Pillar 7: Care for God's Creation

Stewards do not own; rather, they are charged with taking care of something that is not theirs. This Earth is God's and we are the stewards of it. When we do things that protect the Earth and care for it, we acknowledge that the Earth is not ours to do with as we please, but we also show reverence to God, the creator of all. It is very Catholic to be an environmentalist!

from Church Teaching

"At its core, the environmental crisis is a moral challenge. It calls us to examine how we use and share the goods of the Earth, what we pass on to future generations, and how we live in harmony with God's creation." United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, Renewing the Earth: An Invitation to Reflection and Action on Environment in Light of Catholic Social Teaching, p. 1

from Scripture

The Lord God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it. Genesis 2:15
