Sept. 11, 2007 The Social Comm meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00p.m. ¨ A representative from Holiday Tour and Travel presented ideas on parish tours that would build community. Ideas of using these tours as outreach and fundraising were also discussed. The committee will discuss tour opportunities at the next meeting. ¨ Amy and Pat Ostidiek shared plans for the parish fellowship at the Pumpkin Patch on October 10th. ¨ Stacie Goding reported on the young adults group. They will begin meeting again after breaking for the summer. The group is reviewing the Theology on Tap format and the needs of implementing this type of program. ¨ A new church directory and volunteers for its organization was discussed. ¨ A decision was made to create a focus group that will interview new members for ideas on how to make new members feel welcome. October 9, 2007
The Social Committee met on October 9th for their regularly scheduled meeting.
Agenda Items and Discussion:
q Welcoming Newcomers – Father Mike indicated that a focus group from the committee will meet to talk to some of the new comers to get their impressions and suggestions. He usually does an interview and then may ask for a pastoral meeting at a later date. It was suggested that he might bless their home as this is a tradition in some other cultures. q The young adults group is going to go ahead with the “theology on tap” program. Cost is $100 for use of their name, materials, etc. The group will be interested in getting names of speakers and a place to meet. Nathan Detroit’s was suggested as a possibility. (May require a budget down the road) q The social outing at the Scarecrow Patch is Oct. 10th. All is ready to go and there are 150 people signed up to attend. q We decided to pursue a bus trip for anyone interested to the UNL men’s basketball game on Saturday, February 2nd . UNL plays against Iowa State in the afternoon . If this works out well, we could do it again during baseball season. Other ideas for trips were to St . Cecilia’s in Omaha for a Christmas program , Branson, to Omaha to see the Nutcracker or Manheim Steamroller. q Altar Society would like us to help facilitate the Advent Night. They want everyone to know it is not just for the kids but that everyone is welcome.
