Frequently Asked Questions

What is Catholics Encounter Christ (CEC)?

The CEC experience is a structured 3-day weekend beginning on Friday evening and concluding on Sunday evening. It is held at Camp Comeca in Cozad, Nebraska.

During this weekend, you will experience how God's grace works within you and how you can share this grace with others.

What can I expect during the three days?

On the weekend, twenty to thirty men or women meet with a team of priests and lay people. There is informal talk, discussion, singing, joking and laughter, and spontaneous informal prayer. Discussions are centered on talks emphasizing the true meaning of grace, the sacraments, the Mass, the nature and need of prayer, living one's daily life in union with God, studying to understand the gift of God, and introducing Christ to others by word and deed.

There is a daily celebration of the Eucharist and opportunities for Spiritual Direction and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The weekend is a lively, joyous opportunity for you to allow Jesus to work in your life. You will see and experience Him in the lives around you, learn a method of perseverance to keep Him in your life, and bring Him to others through your Christian leadership. The atmosphere of the three days is one of prayer, joy and grace.

What happens after the weekend?

The CEC weekend, in itself, is simply a beginning. The goal of the CEC movement is to make Christ the prime influence in one's life and community. CEC provides support to sustain you as you persevere in using your individual gifts to bring others closer to Christ.

After a CEC experience, the 4th Dayer (one who has made a CEC weekend) is encouraged to do three things:

   1. Expand his/her own daily prayer life.
   2. Initiate an ongoing study program.
   3. Become a more active apostle with and for Christ.
