SUNDAY, AUGUST 17, 2008 GOSPEL REFLECTION:
Theme: Trust in God and
never be afraid to ask God for anything. Do you trust that God hears your prayers? Do you believe that your prayer makes a difference? When you pray, how do you know that Jesus will really respond? STEWARDSHIP: Although it would be a mistake to think that stewardship by itself includes the whole of Christian life, in probing the Christian meaning of stewardship one confronts an astonishing fact: God wishes human beings to be his collaborators in the work of creation, redemption, and sanctification; and such collaboration involves stewardship in its most profound sense. This human activity of cultivating and caring has a generic name: work. It is not a punishment for or a consequence of sin. True, sin does painfully skew the experience of work: “By the sweat of your face shall you get bread to eat” (Gn 3:19). But, even so, God’s mandate to humankind to collaborate with Him in the task of creating--the command to work--comes before the Fall. Work is a fundamental aspect of the human vocation. It is necessary for human happiness and fulfillment. It is intrinsic to responsible stewardship of the world. STEPHEN MINISTRY INFORMATION SESSIONS: Stephen Ministry information meetings will be held Wednesday, September 10th, at 7:00 PM and Monday, September 15th, at 7:00 PM. This is an opportunity for those interested in Stephen Ministry either as caregivers, care receivers, or Stephen Ministry in general. A note of special interest: a new training class will begin this fall. This, then, will be of special interest for those considering the call to be Stephen Ministers. Please mark your calendars!! WHAT DO STEPHEN MINISTERS DO? Stephen Ministers offer caring Christian friendship and concerned listening to people when they need it most. If you or someone you know could use this help, please call Father Mike McDermott at 381-6033 or Renee Miller at 389-6180. Please obtain permission, if you are referring another person, to let their need be known. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS R.C.I.A.: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or Catechumenate, is beginning to be formed. If you are interested in being baptized as Roman Catholic, being received into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church, or if you know of someone who may be interested, please contact Father Mike McDermott at 381-6033 or the church office at 382-8644.

before August 24 and she will register you.
